Adopt-a-Drain

A Project of Hamline University

Leaves and garbage that collect in storm drains pollute waterways. Adopt-a-Drain’s ask is simple: residents commit 5 to 15 minutes twice a month to clean a storm drain and track what they remove. This easy community action improves the health of waterways.

Process

Intention/Action: Inspire community members to sign up at Adopt-a-Drain to clean a storm drain on their street.

Pivot: An alternative to reaching drain adopters at the cancelled State Fair.

Challenge/Opportunity 1: Many parents are looking for safe and easy ways to engage their kids at home during the pandemic.

Challenge/Opportunity 2: With the challenges of 2020, people are looking for ways to get involved in their communities from home.

Incentive: Refer a friend and both people will receive a tote bag.

Shared Vision: 3 messages were crafted to engage distinct individuals in the community: parents, kids, and activators.

Partners: Social media specialist and public education and outreach
